Morrisons has opened electricals clearance outlets in Safeway stores, as it offloads high-ticket items previously sold in the acquired chain's Megastores.
The grocer would not confirm how many clearance shops it has, but a spokesman said the venture was part of the 'product harmonisation process', as the integration of the two businesses continues.
Safeway made a push into non-food under former chief executive Carlos Criado-Perez, who developed the Megastores.
However, Morrisons has always resisted following Tesco and Asda by devoting a significant amount of space to big non-food items, and has preferred to concentrate on its grocery offer.
