Marra joins PowerHouse to take sales director role

PowerHouse, the electricals retailer, has appointed the former group managing director of Brown & Jackson to its operating board.

Francis Marra left the discount specialist at the beginning of September following the start of a restructuring programme. Brown & Jackson has disposed of several fascias and appointed former Matalan boss Angus Monro as chief executive at its core Poundstretcher chain.

Marra has become PowerHouse's sales director, a role that had been vacant following the promotion of Neil Allan to managing director in June.

Allan said: 'We've been looking for someone since the board restructured earlier this year and now we've found the right person.'

Allan described Marra as 'a performance driver'.

Prior to leaving Brown & Jackson, Marra was appointed to head its Your More Store chain in an effort to strengthen performance.

As well as two years as group managing director at Brown & Jackson, Marra spent 24 years at Asda, where he was responsible for the retailer's Scottish division. He has also worked for Somerfield and Lillywhites in sales and operations director roles.

At PowerHouse, Marra will oversee the performance of 3,500 staff. His appointment completes the line-up at the retailer, which split the board into operations and executive following the acquisition of Scottish Power stores in August last year.

As part of the shake-up at Brown & Jackson, Your More Store, What Everyone Wants and Famous Brunswick Warehouse have been sold to South African group Tradegro.
