Tam Mosey, 36, was imprisoned after he admitted taking£12,500 over an 18-month period using faked refunds from discarded price tags to pay the balance on his M&S credit card.
The twice divorced father of one said he had stolen from the store to cover mortgage and child support payments. Mosey used his expertise as a money department manager at M&S's Queen Street store in Cardiff to defraud his employer and was stealing more than£200 a week.
Mosey used the credit card to buy jewellery, designer clothes and furniture from chains such as Ikea and Habitat. He was sacked by M&S after being caught and had been working as a train conductor.
Mosey's defence said he had been 'robbing Peter to pay Paul. He had two failed marriages and wanted to provide his new partner and her daughter with a good standard of living.'
However, in sentencing Judge David Wyn Morgan said: 'A great many people live under similar financial pressure yet they do not resort to crime. You committed a serious criminal offence and you must take responsibility for it.'
