Scottish fashion retailer M&Co. has revealed an 11.1% uplift in like-for-like sales in the nine weeks to January 2.

The retailer said the growth over the key Christmas trading period was driven by its core ladieswear range, which has undergone a “fashion-focused overhaul”.

The 300-store retailer’s online sales more than doubled in the period.

Chairman Iain McGeoch said: “This has been an exceptional Christmas for M&Co., with growing sales and profitability in the face of difficult market conditions.

“The new, younger and more trend-led feel to our ladieswear range is proving to be a huge hit with our current customers as well as enticing new M&Co. shoppers through our doors and onto our shopping site.

“We remain positive for 2010 and beyond, as we believe our commitment to provide quality fashion for all the family at exceptional prices leaves us well positioned to continue to build upon our success.”
