Littlewoods hires Monsoon chief

Littlewoods has appointed Monsoon managing director Rose Foster as chief executive of its clothing chain.

The retailer plans to split responsibility for its clothing stores and Index shops, with a chief executive for Index to be announced later.

Foster will remain at Monsoon for the next six months and Littlewoods Stores chief executive Susan Murray will leave at some point before that.

Littlewoods chairman David Simons said: 'Susan has led the business through a period of great change to a significantly better trading performance.'

According to a Littlewoods statement, there has been a 'significant turnaround in profitability of the high street in the past 12 months'.

The Barclay brothers-owned Littlewoods business is in the process of separating its home shopping and retail arms.

Monsoon revealed that trading since January 13 has been good. Pre-tax profits for the year to May 31 will not be less than£37.5 million.
