Struggling furniture retailer Land of Leather has denied that it is facing a financial crunch as speculation mounted about its future.

Land of Leather chief finance officer Clive Hatchard said: “Trade is horrible, but it is business as usual. We’re carrying on as normal, not closing any stores and we expect the next six months to get worse, but are hopeful that after that it will have bottled. We’re no different to other furniture players that are struggling at the moment.”

Land of Leather is reviewing its overheads. Hatchard said: “We’re looking at cost savings in all areas including advertising and staff. We will definitely cut a chunk of advertising this year, but haven’t yet made any decisions on staff.”
