Retailer expects festive uplift
Electricals are flying off the shelves at John Lewis, with more than two TVs sold a minute, boosting sales 7 per cent for the week ending November 25.

Furnishings recorded strong sales, with blinds and wallpaper standing out. There has also been a seasonal increase in guest beds.

Food continued to perform well, as did cutlery, but fashion sales are still waiting for the winter frost to galvanise interest in heavier clothing.

Both handbags and jewellery are proving popular, as is lingerie. Sales across menswear and toys are also on the up.

John Lewis supply chain director Patrick Lewis said: 'Trade started well this week. We're aiming for a 10 per cent uplift versus last week, driven by increased gift buying. Technology presents are still proving very popular.'
