Sports fashion retailer gets through gloomy holiday trading by cutting markdowns
John David Group has reported a total sales increase of 4 per cent on the equivalent period a year ago for the eight weeks ended January 1. Like-for-like sales also increased by 6 per cent, with the core sports business making up the bulk of the sales.

The retailer said improvements had been brought about by a reduction in under-performing stock and a rationalisation of the group's estate.

The group's executive chairman Peter Cowgill said: 'The Christmas trading period has proven that our consumer offer and our strategy are stimulating a continued recovery in the group's performance.'
