JJB to decide on TJ Hughes sale before October 8

TJ Hughes chief executive George Foster hopes the future of the discount department store chain will be clear by early October, when parent JJB Sports posts interims.

JJB is reviewing options for TJs, acquired last year. 'We're keen on getting this review finished. We hope that something will be said by October 8,' said Foster.

JJB Sports finance director Dave Greenwood said no comment was planned about a possible sale of TJ Hughes until then.

Foster would be interested in making an offer for TJs should it be put up for sale.

According to broker Investec, JJB Sports could net£70 million from the sale.
