Workers in dispute over pay
Workers at sports retail giant JJB plan three more days of strike action, next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, in an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.

The GMB union said that many of the strikers earn little more than the national minimum wage of£5.35 an hour, before bonuses. Union negotiators are seeking a higher basic rate of pay for staff and are calling for equal access to a bonus scheme.

GMB officials have also complained that employment agencies supplied staff illegally during previous strikes by the Wigan workers.

The union has accused JJB founder Dave Whelan of overturning an agreement that had been reached between the union and the retailer's chief executive Tom Knight.

GMB officials met for further discussions with Knight yesterday, and a breakthrough announcement is expected today.
