Amazon plans to launch its Kindle e-reader and an online Kindle bookstore in Brazil during the fourth quarter to benefit from a growing ecommerce market.

It is thought that a launch may be limited to Kindle ebooks initially in order to minimise the risks associated with rolling out a full Amazon site to a country with infrastructure challenges and a costly tax system.

Two local publishers said that they have had meetings with Amazon’s head of Kindle content Pedro Huerta in recent months and that the retailer intends to launch between October and November. No plans have been disclosed by Amazon.
