International News - Walgreens customer drugs privacy policy is put under the spotlight

US chemist group Walgreens faces a Federal Trade Commission inquiry after being quizzed over its customer privacy policy.

Walgreens said it has been asked by the commission to forward information about its consumer privacy and marketing policies.

The FTC suspects that some chemists are infringing shopper privacy when they use their own marketing data to target certain consumer categories in partnership with pharmaceutical firms.

Last week, Rite Aid, another US chemist group, revealed that it had also been contacted by the FTC about the matter.

Both retailers anticipate that they will be found innocent of any infringement.
