International News - Singapore retail body hits back at tourist criticism

The Singapore Retailers Association has been outraged by the tourism board's decision to blacklist nine retailers.

The shops, including Budget Electronics in the Mandarin Shopping Arcade, received complaints from tourists between July and September.

They were accused of overcharging, making false promises and tampering with products.

But Singapore Retailers Association president Jannie Tay said the tourist board never warned it of errant behaviour at the stores - which could then be addressed - and that all retailers may be tarnished by association.

Some retailers in Singapore are already trying to improve their image by offering money-back guarantees for products sold above recommended retail prices.
