International News - Mexx puts final touches to first US store

Fashion retailer Mexx is putting the final touches to its first US store, scheduled to open this month on New York's Fifth Avenue. Mexx, bought by Liz Claiborne in May 2001, is the latest in a spate of European high street names - including Zara and H&M - to arrive in the US. Spanish group Mango is also eyeing opportunities. The 10,000 sq ft (930 sq m) Mexx store was formerly a Liz Claiborne shop and is on the corner of East 52nd Street, opposite Cartier and Gant and next to H&M. Two more New York stores will follow - the first a 10,000 sq ft (930 sq m) outlet on Union Square and the second a 4,500 sq ft (420 sq m) shop in Westchester Mall, White Plains.
