International News - Marshall Field's woos UK tourists to boost footfall

US retailer Marshall Field's has sent a team of trade envoys on a mission to the UK in an effort to foster a 'special relationship' with British tourists.

The Chicago-based department store business wants to cash in on high-spending holiday-makers in the US. The delegation met with tour operators and airlines in an effort to stimulate travel interest and ultimately to attract more visitors to the chain's 62 stores.

Marshall Field's is also linking up with the Chicago Illinois Tourism Office to encourage winter breaks to the city.

A new marketing campaign will include Web site promotions and value-added shopping offers.

The retailer has a presence in eight states and generates annual revenues of US$2.7 billion (£1.62 billion).
