Iceland expands online food offer

Iceland, part of Big Food Group (BFG), intends to expand the range available online as it rolls out new format stores. The group recently abandoned its plan to use Booker warehouses as a way of fulfilling an enlarged range online, but now aims to power ahead in home shopping via stores.

BFG has enjoyed success with the 33 Iceland shops converted to a new store type, which have delivered like-for-like sales growth of 14.1 per cent.

Another 100 stores will be converted this year. The retailer reported full-year total net sales of£5.1 billion against£5.2 billion last time. Profit before tax was£14.5 million, compared with£12.8 million.
