Hunter adds footwear to d2 offer at Bullring store

Tycoon Tom Hunter will unveil the prototype of a footwear fascia in fashion chain d2's Bullring store next month.

Hunter says the mid-market chain will offer men's and women's shoes, as well as sports brands. It will arrive on a concession basis in 57 d2 stores between now and January, with the first standalone mooted for early next year. He also plans a radical redesign of trainer store Offspring.

Hunter said: 'The Bullring store is not going to have the full stock package we want, because of the timescale involved, but the look will be fine. We have got every brand we wanted and put a cracking package together.'

The Scottish entrepreneur bought the Office group, which includes Offspring and upmarket banners Poste and Poste Mistress, in May for a reported£15 million, and is leveraging management expertise to grow his footwear estate.

Managing director Richard Wharton is also designing shoes for the Hunter-owned Soviet brand.

Last week, Hunter unveiled an updated Covent Garden flagship Office, which features a mens' shoe lounge and fresh corporate identity.

Despite international interest in Office licenses or franchises, Hunter says the chain's growth will be at a measured pace.

Hunter said: 'Office is a very special brand. We want to protect that and only open if the site and space is right.'
