It is generally accepted that when it comes to buying clothes on the UK high street, one size doesn’t fit all. A customer who can happily get into a size 10 skirt in one store might need a 14 in a shop two doors down.

Now a frustrated fashion fan and computer programmer has used sizing data to develop an app to show shoppers which sizes are most appropriate for them. Official size data was collected from 18 high street retailers from details published by most retailers via their websites. The data was then combined with a data visualisation app to illustrate the sizes available across the board.

Users visit the site and input their measurements. The app then highlights for them which retailers are the best for them to buy tops, skirts and dresses.

Retailers must take advantage of the wealth of data that is available on their own sites, competitor sites and from the way in which customers use their online service. This data can be insightful and allows retailers to market themselves more effectively.
