House of Fraser has smarter exit

House of Fraser is testing smarter security gates in two stores, including its Croydon store that opened this week.

Each time an alarm is triggered by an electronic article surveillance tag, the pedestals feed back information into a database. The data is then analysed to help the retailer evaluate security, said House of Fraser head of loss prevention Jerry Carter.

Carter explained that the technology from Checkpoint Systems will come in handy if thieves pick certain exits. The retailer will also be able to analyse whether there are too many false alarms, and would allow highlighting of training needs.

Carter had been lobbying security vendors to develop technology that would provide such analytics.

There is no immediate plan to replace pedestals at other House of Fraser stores.
