House of Commons lobbies for first retail manager to run MPs' shop

Tory MP Archie Norman may have the chance to return to a career in retail.

The House of Commons has created the post of retail manager - with a salary of£35,000 a year - to run its shop, which sells everything from Speaker's Whisky to political tracts.

MPs and Commons staff use the shop all year round, but the public are only allowed in during August and September, when Parliament is in recess.

House of Commons director of catering Sue Harrison said: 'We want someone who is full of inspiration, who can help to better inform the public about Parliament and its role.'
