John Lewis has launched a competition to give one member of the public the chance to record a version of the track featured in its popular festive advert, for a special live edition of the commercial on Christmas Day.

The department store group is encouraging people to upload videos of their version of the Keane track, sung by Lily Allen on the Christmas ad, on its YouTube channel.

The winner, chosen by a panel that includes Keane, will record the track in a studio with the producer of Allen’s ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ cover.

The recording will then feature in a 90-second version of the advert which will be aired live on ITV1 on Christmas Day.

John Lewis’s Christmas campaign, revealed during The X Factor earlier this month, features the animated story of best friends Bear and Hare.

John Lewis marketing director Craig Inglis said: “In previous years we’ve been overwhelmed by the number of people sending and uploading their versions of songs from our Christmas ads. This year, with the support of Lily Allen and Keane, we want to give someone a Christmas they’ll never forget - the chance to hear their song on our advert on Christmas Day.”

The competition closes on December 3 and a winner will be chosen by December 6.
