Amazon recorded its busiest ever day on Black Friday with 5.5m orders but could break that record today as it offers hundreds of deals to mark Cyber Monday.

Sales on Amazon.co.uk peaked at 8.29am on Black Friday and across the day it sold an average of 64 items per second.

Last year Amazon sold a record 4m items on Black Friday, but almost instantly broke that record on Cyber Monday when it sold more than 4.1m items.

Amazon hopes to repeat that trend by launching hundreds of “lightening deals” today, which involves a limited amount of products sold for a limited period of time.

The online retailer will release new offers every ten minutes today and products involved in the flash promotions will include TomTom sat navs, Sennheiser headphones and Harry Potter DVDS.

The best-selling Black Friday deals offered by Amazon.co.uk have included a Dolce Gusto Mini Me coffee machine, a Buzz Lightyear action figure, diamond jewellery and men’s watches.

However, deals being offered by Amazon have been called into question using data from price-tracker website zeezaw.co.uk.

For instance Amazon was selling Peppa Pig My First Laptop for £14.54 last week, down from £24.99, but the same toy was being sold for £11.99 on November 13, according to analysis by the Sunday Times.
