Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has snapped up Kraft Heinz’s global chief information officer Francesco Tinto to take on the same role at the health and beauty titan.

Tinto will succeed global CIO and senior vice president at WBA, Anthony Roberts, who is set to retire from his position after 15 years with the group to pursue a non-executive portfolio and will be retained by WBA on an advisory basis.

In his new role, Tinto will oversee the retail group’s IT operations across all of its divisions, as well as its implementation of technology and innovation. His remit will span data analytics, business intelligence, development, support, infrastructure, security and technical services.

Tinto, who joins WBA after 17 years in various leadership positions across Kraft Heinz Company and Kraft Foods and previously spent eleven years at Procter & Gamble, will report to co-chief operating officers Ornella Barra and Alex Gourlay in his new role.

The retail group said Tinto and his team will “eliminate redundancies, enable shared services and ensure their goals and objectives are aligned with WBA’s strategy and priorities”.

Tinto said: “I am very glad to be joining Walgreens Boots Alliance at a time when technology and innovation are more important than ever to the company’s success. I am looking forward to working with my highly-talented team around the world to ensure WBA is at the forefront in this critical area of the business.”

Barra and Gourlay added: “We are deeply thankful to Anthony for building a world-class IT function, which has been integral to our company’s success.

“We are also thrilled to welcome Francesco, who brings an exceptional background and experience to this role.”

Tinto will take up his new role on September 23.
