Superdrug will launch a £1 cosmetics collection next month as it seeks to ramp up its value credentials.

The range, called Make Up Academy, offers “back to basics make-up for bargain hunters looking for trendy products”, said a spokeswoman.

The move follows last year’s launch of a £1 skincare range. It will pit Superdrug against the value ranges of grocers and discounters such as Poundland and 99p Stores.

The retailer will also ramp up its own-label products this year, as well as launch a cosmetics range called Scarlett & Crimson, created by beauty brand Ruby & Millie, and a nail care collection by Victoria Beckham’s manicurist Andrea Fullerton.
