Celesio has reopened its new-look John Bell & Croyden pharmacy in London’s West End following a £4m refit.

The revamped Wigmore Street store, which has been official pharmacist to The Queen since 1909, features a walk-in clinic where pharmacists can prescribe emergency medications, treatments and travel vaccinations. Other services being offered include a dental hygienist, osteopath and chiropodist.

The store, the only one under the John Bell & Croyden moniker, also features Best of British and Skincare from Around the World sections. Brands stocked include Avene, Zelens, La Roche Posay and Neom Organics. Oskia and Hifas de Terra are among brands that have also created exclusive products for the new look store.

Around 85 staff are employed in the branch and click-and-collect is also available.

The store, which first opened in 1798, also features a mobility scooter at the front of the store encrusted with 80,000 Swarovski crystals.

New era for pharmacists

German-based Celesio, which also owns LloydsPharmacy, aims for its walk-in clinic to ease the burden on GP surgeries.

Celesio UK’s managing director Cormac Tobin said: “Our hope is for John Bell & Croyden to spearhead a new era in the role that pharmacists can play in modern healthcare.”

Research by the company suggests that 36% of Londoners are unaware of the healthcare provided by pharmacists.

In July Celesio’s LloydsPharmacy struck a £125m deal to acquire Sainsbury’s pharmacy business.
