Harrods ditches scheme to open spin-off store

Harrods has shelved plans to create a satellite food offer at 100 Brompton Road.

The Knightsbridge retailer owns the ground and lower-ground floors of the property and was developing a retail mix that included food, but was not a rival food hall.

A spokesman said there had been numerous internal ideas about how to utilise the space, including a 'food offering', but there was now 'no confirmed plan'.

Pre-tax profits at the department store plummeted from£22 million in 2002 to£6.9 million for the year to February on flat sales of£461 million.
