World-famous toy shop Hamleys opened a three-floor shop in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on Wednesday.

Located on Mecca Street – the city’s main retail thoroughfare – the 20,000 sq ft store will be operated by retail franchise partner Jordan Centre. The shop aims to replicate the experiential elements of Hamleys’ Regent Street flagship in London. It will also offer toy demonstrations, in-store magicians, a Fun 2 Learn area for pre-school children, a life-sized doll’s house, a rally dome and a café.

The store marks the start of a global expansion by the retailer, to include the opening of a 32,000 sq ft shop at The Dubai Mall in August. In October, Hamleys will open its first European standalone store at Dublin’s Dundrum centre.

Chief executive Gudjón Reynisson said the retailer had received a “very warm welcome” and expects that Jordan will “love the magical elements of Hamleys”.
