Asda has launched the first in a series of 26 Christmas adverts as the grocer bids to showcase its full range of festive products.

The supermarket said the “individual moments of Christmas” have been designed to build anticipation ahead of the big day on December 25.

The Walmart-owned chain said the “customer-centric” campaign is based heavily on research and insight from its shoppers.

Asda’s products, including its revamped premium food lines, will take centre stage during the ads – an approach it kick-started with the September launch of its ‘That’s Better’ campaign and its Halloween advertising.

The grocer’s first festive ad, which aired on ITV last night, features a Christmas dinner table with a never-ending supply of food, ending with the ‘Christmas Made Better’ slogan.

Three more Asda adverts will air this week, including one that focuses on a child faced with the dilemma of whether to behave or misbehave if she wants to get all the toys on her Christmas list.

The others will depict a stand-off between a cat and the Christmas tree and feature a family of elves in their Christmas pyjamas.

‘Hero products’

TV chef James Martin, who partnered with Asda back in April, will also feature in a number of the upcoming adverts to highlight “hero” products from this year’s range.

Asda chief customer officer Andy Murray said: “What customers want is to know that they can trust Asda to offer them everything they need to make their Christmas live up to their expectations, including great quality, great prices and exciting product ranges for the festive season.

“We know our customers want the special premium Christmas products without paying the premium price. They want to serve something really special that they wouldn’t expect to see in-store all year round to impress their family and friends.”

Asda worked with Saatchi & Saatchi London and Blue 449 on the campaign.
