Danish discounter Netto has revealed it will open two new UK stores in November as part of wider plans to open 15 supermarkets this year.

Netto, which signed a joint venture with Sainsbury’s in June last year to move back into the UK, will open stores in Hull and Lymm in Cheshire.

The deal with Sainsbury’s formed part of the supermarket giant’s strategy to fight back against discounters Lidl and Aldi.

Netto opened five stores last year, in Sheffield, Ormskirk, Doncaster and its first two locations Manchester and Leeds.

But Sainsbury’s chief executive Mike Coupe remained tight-lipped about Netto’s progress following the release of the grocer’s fourth-quarter financial results on Tuesday.
