Boots is today launching its first range of healthy evening meals under its lunchtime Shapers brand as the health and beauty retailer further grows its food offer.

Chicken tikka masala, paella and thai chicken curry are among a raft of ready meals on offer through the new range.

It is the first extension to the Shapers food range, and is available in 100 Boots stores throughout London and key commuter sites across the UK from today.

The selection follows the same format as Shapers’ lunchtime offer, as customers can pick a main meal and side or dessert for 500 calories or less.

Prices start at £1 for desserts and rise to £3.25 for ready meal options. All main meals are being offered at an introductory price of two for £5 until April.

The move follows Boots’ partnership with food supplier Musgrave, which launched a healthy and convenient food offer through the SuperValu range in August last year. Boots also introduced an alternative range of lunchtime meals in a tie-up with chef Jamie Oliver.

The evening Shapers selection comprises 27 options, including main meals, warm salads, vegetable and salad accompaniments and desserts.

Retail Week last year revealed that Boots was going to begin selling ready meals and wine in stores.

Alliance Boots health and beauty chief executive Alex Gourlay said: “With over 30 years’ experience in the convenience healthy food arena, Boots UK is well positioned to offer a convenient, healthy evening meals range.

“We know our customers want to feel good about what they eat and do not want to compromise between eating healthily or conveniently. The new evening meal range is a positive step towards addressing that compromise and achieving our overall mission for the Shapers brand of championing everyone’s right to feel good about what they eat every day, for every meal occasion.”
