Asda is to create 7,000 Christmas jobs as part of a £5m investment in customer service for the golden quarter.

Roles the grocer will hire for will be on the shop floor, in home delivery and in customer service. Potential ‘Christmas Helpers’ can apply online at www.asda.jobs.

Existing staff will also be able to scoop up some of the 750,000 hours overtime offered.

The move is part of the grocer’s commitment to service as well as price and quality.

One role on the shop floor will be ‘Service Hosts’ which will help track down last minute gifts, as well as staff to provide advice on the latest gadgets or clothing trends for gifts.

Asda chief executive Andy Clarke said: “Our customers love Christmas – and they want everything to be just right – that’s why we’re bringing in 7,000 extra pairs of hands to make sure it goes without a hitch.  Extra help to our customers when they need it most and much needed job opportunities in our local communities.”

Asda’s second quarter figures are due to be released at midday today.
