Value retailer Wilko has hired former Topshop director Craig McGregor as its new retail director.

McGregor replaces Anthony Houghton, who left to become retail and property director at Holland & Barrett earlier this year, and is responsible for Wilko’s 418 stores.

McGregor was most recently UK retail director at Specsavers. He will report into Wilko chief operating officer Sean Toal.

Toal said: “We’re thrilled that Craig is joining the team. He’s an experienced and talented retail leader who shares our passion for products that simply help and we’re looking forward to working with him to ensure customers have a great experience when and where they shop with us.”

The appointment is hot on the heels of Wilko’s hiring of its CFO, Asda finance boss Alex Russo.

Wilko director Lisa Wilkinson said: “We are pleased to be building such a strong leadership team across our entire business to confidently deliver the next chapter in Wilko’s transformation programme.”
