Argos has frozen or cut 11,000 prices in its new catalogue, which will be distributed from tomorrow.

The multichannel retailer, owned by Home Retail Group, is also introducing 8,000 new products and ramping up its white goods offer.

Argos has themed its catalogue under the strapline ‘Living for Less’ and added to the number of wow! deals and value products.

The retailer is to roll-out ‘stocked-in’ white goods to 362 shops after a successful trial in a small number of stores.

The pilot showed that the offer appealed to consumers making distress purchases, such as the immediate replacement of broken goods such as washing machines.

Other changes include the debut of a children’s clothing range from former Spice Girl Emma Bunton, the extension of the Chad Valley brand into kidswear and a range of official Olympics lines.

The retailer aims to benefit from the sports spectacular and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with Union Jack-branded merchandise such as radios.
