Game prepares for aggressive growth in France

Game is to begin aggressive expansion in France in 2004, and plans to almost treble its store count there in two years.

The games retailer has 58 French ScoreGame shops, but chief executive designate Martin Long said the goal is to have up to 150.

Game has also appointed a 10-strong management team to lead the French business.

Philippe Wehmeyer - former managing director of French fashion chain Morgan - has been given the new role of ScoreGame managing director. Game recently appointed former FNAC chief executive Jean-Paul Giraud to its board as a non-executive.

Long said: 'We have spent two years getting ourselves ready for growth (in France). We have spent considerable time headhunting key people and have now established a stronger level of management to support our vision for a bigger chain there. France is a vibrant market (for games) and we want to make an impact.'
