Game is driving footfall through a mobile phone app, based on a Xbox game, that involves checking in at locations close to stores to win points that customers can redeem when they buy the game.

The location-based mobile app, Kingmaker, launched by mobile app develop agency Grapple Mobile, allows users to compete against each other on their mobile phones. They collect ‘gold’ that can be redeemed within the Fable III console game, available for purchase at Game stores.

Treasure, in other words bonus points, are available to anyone who logs in to the app within a 50 metre radius of a Game store or other designated locations including specific areas of cultural interest.

The app is available on iPhone, Android and Nokia smartphones and was launched at the start of October. Fable III launches in January.

Mobile applications provide retailers with an ideal way to allow consumers to make purchase decisions remotely and then drive consumers to store to complete the sales cycle, via relevant offers and incentives.
