Galleria strikes gold with three software deals

Assortment planning specialist Galleria has swept the board with three contract wins to Safeway, Costcutter and Spar, all announced within seven days of each other.

The biggest contract, to supply space optimisation software to Safeway, is worth more than£1.5 million to the company, and will overhaul the way Safeway plans space in its 481 stores.

In a statement, Safeway chief information officer Ric Francis said: 'Following the roll-out throughout our stores, we'll quite simply be able to stock more of the products that our customers want to buy. We believe we'll see an impact on our bottom line within six months.'

Costcutter has contracted the company for a Web-based version of its software, so that it can make it available to its estate of 1,150 stores to replace manual store-specific planograms.

Spar has also opted for Web distribution of planograms to its estate across the country.

The system has a mobile capability. Safeway business systems manager Martin Cook said: 'There is potential for delivery over Wireless LAN in-store to mobile devices.'
