Fitzgerald joins team as part of Liberty overhaul

Department store business Liberty has drafted in Deborah Fitzgerald as director of marketing and communications.

She joins from trendy London arts company The Hospital, whose co-founder and creative director is Eurythmics musician Dave Stewart.

Fitzgerald is the latest recruit to join the management team being assembled by chief executive Iain Renwick. Another appointment will be announced next month.

Liberty creative director Lucille Lewin has recently restructured the buying team, poaching Selfridges' menswear, home and leisure buyer Jane Davies to fulfil the post of buying and merchandise director.

Davies, who is yet to take up the post, will sit on the executive board.

Lewin is also overhauling the first floor women's department this summer, splitting the trading space into four rooms and introducing new brands.

An area devoted to Liberty's typically bohemian customer will also be created.

Meanwhile, the retailer is developing various own-brand ranges for launch this year.
