Mothercare chief executive Ben Gordon’s total remuneration package increased from £1.4m to £6.5m this year after a management incentive scheme paid out.

Gordon, who has a basic salary of £600,000, benefitted from a £5.6m boost, as his Executive Incentive Plan finished its cycle.

The boss of the nursery specialist also received a performance bonus of £224,000.

Gordon has turned Mothercare around since joining the retailer in 2002 when it was on the brink of collapse.

In its full year to March 27 sales passed the £1bn mark for the first time with a fast growing international business which enjoyed sales growth of 21%, helping lift profits 40% for the business.
