Consumer confidence

GfK offers a sector-wide temperature check with a barometer of customer sentiment on Tuesday.

Retailers will hope warmer weather and sports fever will have buoyed shopper spirits in July, despite continued political uncertainty.

Next

On Wednesday, fashion bellwether Next will reveal its second-quarter trading results. The retailer will hope to have continued the momentum from its first quarter, which caused it to up its full-year profit guidance. Warmer weather was credited as a contributor to its “better than expected” sales performance in the last quarter so analysts will be eager to see if the recent heatwave has continued to bolster Next’s sales or hindered them.

BRC Shop Price Index

The BRC will report its Shop Price Index for July in conjunction with Nielsen on Wednesday.

Deflation eased significantly to 0.5% in June from 1.1% in May, marking the 62nd consecutive month of deflation.

The rate of non-food price decreases eased by almost a percentage point to 1.6% in June from 2.5% in May, marking the lowest rate of deflation since December.

Food inflation held steady at 1.2%.

Pets at Home

Pets at Home will report it is first quarter results of Friday. After a drop in profits in its full-year results in May, triggered by its investment in slashing prices, commentators will be looking for continued resilience in sales.
