Arcadia owner Sir Philip Green has suffered a fresh setback after calling time on his bid to crack China.

The tycoon’s flagship Topshop Topman brand has brought its franchise partnership with Shangpin to an end early, after just four years.

Topshop said in a statement the decision had been reached by a “mutual agreement”.

Chinese shoppers will be able to purchase products from Topshop.com, Topman.com, via the Shangpin website and on Alibaba’s platform Tmall until November 30, when the partnership will come to an end.

Topshop insisted it had “enjoyed a successful working relationship” since the partnership began in September 2014.

A spokesman for the fashion chain added: “Topshop Topman consider China a hugely significant market for development. The company is currently exploring opportunities to further grow the brands in China.”
