Selfridges has opened a wedding shop for second-hand garments as part of its sustainability push.

The pop-up shop, named Resellfridges: The Wedding offers a range of vintage and pre-owned wedding gear including bridal gowns, suits and wedding guest outfits.

The store will run for five weeks in Selfridges’ iconic Corner Shop in London as the department store retailer explores new sustainability options as part of its Project Earth campaign, which launched last year.

The shop will sell clothing and accessories for the entire wedding party and event from designer dresses to upcycled menswear suits to vintage wedding rings and accessories.

Brands on sale include a curated selection of vintage garments from ReSee, Rokit Vintage and Vout Vintage, as well as a collection from Mon Vintage, which includes pieces from brands such as Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Alaïa.

Customers are also able to bring garments and accessories to an upcycling and repairs service to breathe new life into them.

Named The Restory, the service can repair broken heels, repair broken clasps, or even upcycle, reconstruct or refashion any item into something new – for example, a family member’s wedding dress.

Sustainability drive

Resellfridges also offers a rental service for brides, grooms and guests to rent the necessary items for as little as £20 for four days.

The news comes following Selfridge’s announcement that it will be offering weddings in-store.

Selfridges executive buying and merchandising director Sebastian Manes said: “This year more than ever, our customers are being more considered in how they live and shop, and weddings are no exception. As we continue exploring circular models through Project Earth, we’re excited to bring a unique experience to Selfridges for brides, grooms and guests looking to celebrate weddings in a more earth-conscious way.

“From vintage bridal dresses to upcycled suits to services that help to re-imagine special pieces, Resellfridges: The Wedding is the destination for planet-positive weddings this summer.”
