Debenhams is to launch its first ‘Christmas Spectacular’ Sale on Wednesday, offering price cuts of up to 25%.

The department store chain claimed the retailer will give back ten times more in savings than the chancellor will take away when VAT increases by 2.5% in January. The Sale will run in stores and online.

By launching its Sale in November, Debenhams hopes to capture the ‘early bird shopper’ who wants to spread out the cost of Christmas.

Debenhams deputy chief executive Michael Sharp said:  “We are living in uncertain times and savings of this nature are just what the country and our customers need.

“With deep savings across the store from Christmas gifting through to beauty, menswear to home and childrenswear through to womenswear, we strive to make Christmas shopping stress free for our customers.

“There really is no better destination than Debenhams for those looking for all their Christmas shopping needs under one roof, and no better time than now to shop.”

The price cuts will run on all Designers at Debenhams brands including Betty Jackson, Butterfly by Matthew Williamson, Principles by Ben de Lisi and Star by Julien Macdonald.

It will also run on high street names including Oasis, Coast, Miss Selfridge and Wallis.

The Christmas Spectacular will run from November 17 to 21.

The retailer said cost savings have been factored into the Debenhams promotional calendar.
