Asda has signed a deal to be the exclusive retailer of Chris de Burgh’s new album ‘Moonfleet & Other Stories’.

The grocer will promote the album, released on October 18, through a campaign covering TV, social networking and in-store marketing.Asda’s music buyer, Andrew Powell, said that De Burgh “resonates particularly strongly with many Asda shoppers”. The promotion is being run in conjunction with De Burgh and his record company Ferryman Productions.

The Asda deal comes shortly after Girls Aloud singer Nadine Coyle revealed she was releasing a solo album on her own label that would be sold exclusively through Tesco.

Fergal Gara, Asda’s category director for music, video and games, said: “In a changing entertainment landscape it makes sense for Asda to look into new ways of working to deliver more value and better choice for our customers. Working this closely with an artist such as Chris de Burgh allows us to pass on a saving to Asda shoppers whilst offering an exclusive product just for them.”

De Burgh already has more than 34,000 fans and he has just set up a Twitter account, where he is promoting the new album. ‘Moonfleet & Other Stories’ is available for pre-order on Asda.com.
