Electricals giant Best Buy UK is to stop selling electric cars, the headline-grabbing product that helped generate excitement when it launched here in the spring.

Marketing director Kevin Styles said the decision was taken because of delays in the release of such cars. The existing offer will be phased out in October and November. He said shoppers had responded well to the cars available and the decision was simply practical.

He said Best Buy remained committed to green technology, which would in future be incorporated in relevant ranges around stores.

Styles said Best Buy was “looking forward to a pretty exciting peak season” helped by interest in 3D televisions. Best Buy said it would be the only specialist retailer in the UK to stock all six available brands, having struck an exclusive deal with Philips.
