Dune seeks store in flagship hunt

Shoe retailer Dune is looking for a larger flagship store in central London as it expands its men's footwear and women's accessory ranges.

Managing director Daniel Rubin said Dune needs a flagship to raise the profile of the brand as well as to display the retailer's entire offer, and wants a site in either Oxford Street or Covent Garden.

Rubin wants a flagship of up to 2,000 sq ft (185 sq m), which will be more than twice the size of Dune's four other central London stores. The lack of space at present means none of the London outlets stock the men's range.

He said that thanks to fashion icons such as David Beckham, sales of men's shoes at Dune's other stores have increased and Rubin wants to capitalise on this.

'A lot more men are buying shoes. The toe-thong, for example, was a bestseller this summer.'

Men's footwear is available in 12 stores at the moment. Rubin said the accessories offer is also being expanded, as more women buy matching bags and shoes.

Dune has 30 stores in the UK and Ireland, and plans to have 60 in five years' time.

It is also considering expanding with more concessions, and recently opened one in Dublin's Roche department store in Henry Street. Its first is at John Lewis in Liverpool.
