Dixons/Comet slammed over hard-sell tactics

More than two in five shoppers buying PCs from Dixons Group and Comet feel under 'a lot of pressure' to buy extended warranties.

According to the Consumers' Association's magazine Which? pressure-selling of extended warranties in the PC market is rife in electricals chains.

The research indicated that customers at John Lewis and at independent stores felt under far less pressure, with only 5 per cent and 9 per cent respectively complaining there was a lot of pressure.

'The Competition Commission needs to clamp down on companies whose staff pressure customers into buying these largely unnecessary products,' said a Consumers' Association spokesman.
