Discount lines raise Carrefour's sales in France

Carrefour has seen an increase in sales in France, following the introduction of its deep discount No.1 range.

The range consists of about 500 products - a figure that will double before Christmas - and has been positioned against discounters such as Aldi and Lidl.

Carrefour's French sales increased 2.1 per cent in the third quarter to EUR10 billion (£7.02 billion). However, it revealed that the French market remained difficult.

Carrefour opened 223 stores in the quarter, taking its worldwide total to more than 10,000 outlets. Total sales increased 4.6 per cent to EUR19.8 billion (£13.89 bil-lion), taking into account currency fluctuations.
