The Leeds Partnership, a joint venture between Hammerson and Town Centre Securities, has appointed six architects to enlist designers for its 1.5 million sq ft (140,000 sq m) retail-led scheme.

Acme Space has been chosen to design the 279,870 sq ft (26,000 sq m) John Lewis anchor store. Other companies that will deliver aspects such as the high streets and public realm are The Jerde Partnership, Benoy, Heatherwick Studio, John McAslan + Partners and Gross Max.

The development, called Eastgate Quarters, will include more than 100 shops, a restaurant district and up to 600 homes. Planning permission was granted last year and work will start in 2009, with completion set for 2012.
