Amazon has teamed up with South Korean retail group Hyundai Department Store to create a “next-generation” retail model, including checkout-free stores and drone delivery.

Hyundai revealed earlier this week that it will work with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the etailer’s cloud service provider, to develop a Korean version of Amazon Go, the etailer’s checkout-free store.

The pair are also planning a drone delivery service for food and drinks and an automated concierge service using Amazon’s artificial intelligence technology.

“We will apply the next-generation retail technology co-developed with Amazon to Hyundai Department Store Yeouido [in Seoul], scheduled to open in the second half of 2020,” an official from Hyundai said.

AWS will also work with Hyundai Department Store’s IT unit to create a large-scale virtual reality theme park, which it plans to open within the year, according to Korean publication Pulse.
