Debenhams Nokia, Android and iPhone apps

Last week Debenhams launched transactional Android and Nokia apps to build on its current growth in the m-commerce market, making the retailer the first to have transactional apps for all three major smartphones.

The free apps follow the format of the popular iPhone app, launched late last year, which received 360,000 downloads and generated £1m of sales in the first five months.

Additional features on the new apps include a wish-list, which can be created by scanning products in store or by selecting them within the app. The apps also feature a barcode scanner, so customers can check prices and reviews of products in store. This technology also works for QR codes, so shoppers can gain access to exclusive products and special offers when they see the codes in marketing and window displays.

Debenhams built the apps after the success of the iPhone app and an 82% increase in total sales from the desktop site.
